Faith, Values and Youth

September 22, 2011

This morning the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership sponsored a first-rate panel discussion to address the topic of drug use and violent crime in our community…and ways that the business community might address these significant issues…issues that impact business success and the quality of life in our region.  Among the distinguished panelists, was Joe Markiewicz, Co-Director of Healthy Youth Development in Erie County, as well as Erie City School District Superintendent Jay Badams and Erie County District Attorney Jack Daneri.

You may have missed your chance to hear Joe Markiewicz this morning, but he is slated to be the Keynote Speaker at ICM’s upcoming Annual Meeting on October 18, 2011 at Mercyhurst College…and he will address issues of “Faith, Values and Youth.”

Research shows that faith-based organizations can create a buffer between youth and at-risk behavior… ‘Healthy behaviors for all children and youth start with healthy beliefs and clear standards…in families, schools, communities and peer groups.’  Joe is expected to explore ways that the faith community can be a part of the solution and really make a difference in the lives of our community’s children and youth.
